Over 40 Innovative STEM Projects Win O&R Grants Totaling Nearly $37,000
Awards Support Science Studies in Rockland, Orange and Bergen Schools
Orange and Rockland Utilities, Inc. (O&R) has awarded grants totaling nearly $37,000 to support over 40 creative, cutting-edge classroom projects that focus on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
O&R’s STEM Classroom Grants provided up to $1,000 each to educators at schools (pre-kindergarten through grade 12) and youth group leaders for the 2021-2022 school year in communities located within O&R’s service area. The winning projects featured subjects ranging from robotics to hydroponics and solar to wind power.
Talented, hard-working, thoughtful teachers have crafted ambitious, interesting, ingenious, sparkling lesson plans that dazzle. These out-of-the-box proposals are designed to challenge students to think, plan, act and achieve --- and have fun doing it.
O&R President and CEO Robert Sanchez said, “O&R is proud to support our teachers and students with STEM grants that can help to create future leaders in science, technology, engineering and math.”
The grants were awarded based on a review of teacher-submitted proposals by the O&R STEM Education Advisory Council, a panel of educators and engineers assembled by O&R expressly for this purpose.
Over the past seven years, O&R has awarded 277 STEM Classroom Grants totaling nearly $247,000. Those grants ranged from $307 to $1,000.
