Orange and Rockland Utilities’ Andrew Farrell Named a Con Edison Top Award Winner
Orange and Rockland Utilities’ (O&R) Andrew Farrell, a Harrington Park, N.J. resident, has received Con Edison’s highest honor, the Living Our Values Award for 2023 (LOV Award).
Consolidated Edison, Inc., O&R’s parent company, created the LOV Award in 1992 to recognize the women and men who exemplify the company’s values of service, honesty, concern, courtesy, teamwork, and excellence. The award was designed to honor the values and work ethic of outstanding employees who consistently serve as role models. O&R’s Farrell, along with five other winners from Con Edison, was selected for this prestigious honor for 2023.
O&R President and CEO Robert Sanchez said, “Andrew is well-known at O&R and in the community as a gifted leader, a creative thinker, and a strategic planner. We are very proud of him, and that his hard work and dedication to support our customers have been recognized with this prestigious award.”
Farrell grew up in Old Tappan, N.J., attended Northern Valley Regional High School at Old Tappan, earned bachelor’s degrees in Physics and Math from Rowan University and a master’s degree in Climate and Society from Columbia University.
Before joining Con Edison in 2012, Farrell worked at Columbia University’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory where he performed deep sea climate modeling research. Then, he became a contractor for Columbia’s Astro Physics program on a grant from NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center as part of a study to find the best spot to site an international space station on the moon.
Farrell joined Con Edison in the business finance department and moved to O&R’s Utility of the Future team in 2019 to pursue his interest in clean energy technology. Farrell now is the Department Manager of O&R Electric Vehicle Operations (EVO) where he takes the lead in supporting electric vehicle program development to ensure that O&R is meeting New York's and New Jersey’s ambitious climate goals.
Two of the most notable projects Farrell developed resulted in O&R’s receiving national recognition with the 2022 ReliabilityOne® Outstanding Customer Engagement Award. The award honored Farrell’s design and development of two new digital tools: one that guides residential customers to successfully adopt cleaner options for heating and cooling, such as electric heat pumps, and the other that provides developers with detail-packed maps to help them make the best choice for siting public electric vehicle (EV) chargers.
Community Work
Farrell has served for many years on the Harrington Park Road Runners board of directors, a local non-profit that hosts races, encourages a healthy lifestyle, and also raises money to give back into the local community including scholarships, creation and maintenance of local parks, and support to the volunteer first responders.
