Orange and Rockland Utilities Estimates Power Back at 9 P.M. Today for 6,000 Remaining Customers Out of Service From Thursday Night Storms
Orange and Rockland Utilities (O&R) estimates that power will be restored by 9 p.m. today to the approximately 6,000 remaining Orange County customers whose power was knocked out by a series of severe thunderstorms that rocked northern Orange County late last night and into this morning.
Approximately 16,000 O&R customers in all lost electric service when trees, toppled by the storm, fell into O&R electric transmission lines, and damaged them. Those lines feed four substations that provide service to customers in Deer Park, Westtown, Port Jervis and Cuddebackville.
O&R crews worked through the night last night to restore service to approximately 7,000 of the 16,000 customers whose power was knocked out by the storm. Approximately 3,000 of the remaining customers were restored to service through the day today with the final remaining approximately 6,000 customers from last night’s transmission outage are due to be restored to service as of 9 p.m this evening.
The majority of the Orange County customers affected by the outage were from: Port Jervis, Deerpark, Minisink, and Wawayanda.
