Energy Service Pros Honor Rockland Electric's Jeremy Scott
The Association of Energy Services Professionals (AESP) has honored Orange and Rockland Utilities, Inc.’s (O&R) Jeremy Scott with AESP’s 2024 Energy Award for Program Design and Implementation for his work in developing and deploying the company’s New Jersey Charger Ready Incentive Program.
Scott, a Project Specialist on O&R’s electric vehicle (EV) development team known as E-Mobility, was honored with his team on February 8.
“This award is a tremendous honor that truly reflects the hard work the entire E-Mobility team has put in over the past few years,” Scott said.
The New Jersey Charger Ready Incentive Program was developed by O&R for implementation by Rockland Electric Company, an electric utility that serves 73,000 customers in parts of Bergen, Passaic, and Sussex County in New Jersey. Rockland Electric Company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Orange and Rockland Utilities, Inc., which in turn is owned by Consolidated Edison, Inc.
Since its launch in December 2022, the New Jersey Charger Ready Incentive Program has addressed the needs of developers seeking to install EV charging stations, as well as residential customers looking to purchase an EV charger for their homes.
Scott joined the E-Mobility team in July 2022 and was quickly tasked with designing, creating, and implementing an incentive program for New Jersey.
A key aspect of this endeavor was executing contracts with EV manufacturers and facilitating data sharing necessary for program reporting to the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities
(NJBPU). According to Scott, creating the program was the easy task, but launching it in the timeframe allotted by the NJBPU presented a significant challenge.
“All the New Jersey utilities had 60 calendar days to get their programs up and running,” Scott said. “But we did it. Not only were we the only utility in New Jersey to launch on time, but we’ve exceeded expectations in terms of the large number of customers served by this program and the growing number of requests for program participation.”
While Rockland Electric Company is the smallest utility in New Jersey, the E-Mobility team has been recognized as a leader in the state by launching this program and growing the number of EV contracts. For the New jersey Charger Ready Incentive Program, O&R currently has 88 contracts with manufacturers, which leads all New Jersey utilities.
These contracts significantly increased the range of charger choices available to Rockland Electric Company’s customers, forming the foundation of the program's success and empowering customers to make informed decisions about their EV charging needs.
Scott said the most remarkable milestone achieved in developing this program was the successful execution of the 50th contract, which was established with Tesla, a significant player in the EV industry.
