Orange and Rockland Utilities, Inc. Earns 2024 Energy Star® Partner Award
Orange and Rockland Utilities, Inc. (O&R) has been honored by the federal government’s ENERGY STAR® program for helping O&R customers make energy efficient choices to upgrade to ENERGY STAR® products.
Since 2009, O&R customers have saved enough energy to reduce carbon emissions by 1.4 tons which is equivalent to taking more than 310,700 cars off the road by effectively promoting ENERGY STAR® certified products through O&R’s online store, energy efficiency programs and products, and marketing and outreach campaigns.
Each year, the ENERGY STAR® program honors a select group of businesses and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to energy efficiency and the transition to a clean energy economy. ENERGY STAR® award winners lead their industries in the production, sale, and adoption of energy-efficient products, homes, buildings, services, and strategies. These efforts have saved more than 5 trillion kilowatt-hours of electricity over the past 30 years.

Orange and Rockland Utilities, Inc. (O&R), a wholly owned subsidiary of Consolidated Edison, Inc., one of the nation’s largest investor-owned energy companies, is a regulated utility. The ENERGY STAR® logo is a widely recognized symbol that signifies energy efficiency and environmental sustainability. By encouraging customers to look for this logo, O&R helps customers easily identify products that meet high energy efficiency standards and ensures low-cost, energy-efficient products are easily accessible to a wide range of customers.
O&R’s Marketplace Program, My ORU Store, enables customers to shop online and receive instant discounts for ENERGY STAR® certified smart thermostats, advanced power strips, air purifiers, and dehumidifiers. O&R also partners with local retailers within the Orange and Rockland Utilities and the Rockland Electric Company service territories to provide ENERGY STAR® certified products at a reduced cost for customers.
The O&R Instant Lighting Incentive Program works with participating distributors to offer commercial customers instant rebates on select ENERGY STAR® certified LEDs. There also is a commercial customer rebate option to promote efficiency using ENERGY STAR® certified electric and gas equipment.
In 2023, O&R began offering generous incentives for qualifying ENERGY STAR® certified heat pump water heaters (HPWH) through the New York State Clean Heat Program.
O&R continued outreach and worked with 36 food pantries to bring free ENERGY STAR® certified LEDs to low-to-moderate income families. The program used this opportunity to cross promote the Empower+ Program, managed by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), which provides no-cost energy efficiency solutions to income-eligible New Yorkers.
