O&R Named Recipient of the 2024 ReliabilityOne® Award for Outstanding Reliability Performance in the Northeast Region Suburban Service Area

O&R  was named by PA Consulting as a recipient of the 2024 ReliabilityOne® Award for Outstanding Reliability Performance in the Northeast Region Suburban service area – recognizing the very best suburban service area investor-owned utilities in the United States.

To be eligible for this recognition, a utility must deliver a reliability performance ranked as the top performer in this demographic category.

“To be recognized once again by PA Consulting is a great reflection of outstanding behind the scenes work by hundreds of employees who go above and beyond to improve the service we provide to our customers,” said O&R vice president of Operations Won Choe. “We are honored to receive this award, a wonderful tribute to the talented and hardworking people of O&R.”

Over the past year alone, O&R has spent nearly $160 million to safely fortify and improve the reliability of its electric system by continuing to construct and upgrade critical infrastructure, as well as implement a broad set of programs designed to reduce the number, damage and duration of power outages caused by major storms.

As a result of these critical investments, O&R continues to see a strong improvement in its electric service restoration times. That improvement came from energizing two new electric substations and upgrading existing substations in 2024, building additional electric circuits, implementing distribution automation in select circuits, enhancing overhead systems with stronger wire and poles, burying overhead lines at strategic locations, and expanding tree-trimming efforts at vulnerable service locations.

The coveted annual awards go to utilities that demonstrate outstanding reliability and excel in providing the most dependable electric service to their customers.

All utilities operating dense electric delivery networks in North America are eligible for consideration for the ReliabilityOne® Award for service in a metro area. There are eight metropolitan service regional awards including Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, Plains, Mountains, West, Southeast, and Southwest.

After provisional recipients are selected, each company undergoes a certification process that provides an independent review and confirmation of the policies, processes and systems used to collect, analyze and report a company's reliability results.

PA Consulting’s ReliabilityOne® awards are presented to electric utilities providing their customers with the highest levels of reliability in the industry. PA Consulting’s ReliabilityOne® study is based on standard industry reliability statistics that measure the frequency and duration of electric power outages. As a group, ReliabilityOne® participants on average experienced over 50% fewer sustained outages, and their collective system saw 60% shorter outage durations than the average US investor owned utility. PA Consulting has been analyzing electric utility performance since 1987. For more information about PA Consulting, visit: https://www.paconsulting.com/industries/energy-and-utilities.
