O&R Crews Aid Major Storm Recovery Work in Maine; Power to Over 100,000 Knocked Out by High Winds

Twenty-one Orange and Rockland (O&R)  overhead electric line technicians and support personnel are scheduled to begin work in Skowhegan, Maine today to help restore electric service to more than 100,000 Central Maine Power (CMP) customers’ whose power was knocked out by strong wind storms late Tuesday night into Wednesday this week.

The storms roared through New England Tuesday and Wednesday impacting service to more than 200,000 electric customers.

O&R dispatched its emergency responders yesterday to Augusta, Maine. CMP requested help through the North Atlantic Mutual Assistance Group (NAMAG), the utility industry’s mutual aid program that supports member companies’ emergency service recovery efforts.

Central Maine Power Company (CMP), a subsidiary of AVANGRID, Inc., is Maine’s largest electricity transmission and distribution utility. Based in Augusta, Maine, CMP serves approximately 624,000 customers across 346 communities in central and southern Maine.

Orange and Rockland Utilities, Inc. (O&R), a wholly owned subsidiary of Consolidated Edison, Inc., one of the nation’s largest investor-owned energy companies, is a regulated utility. O&R provides electric service to approximately 300,000 customers in southeastern New York State (where its franchise name is Orange & Rockland) and northern New Jersey (where it’s Rockland Electric Company) and natural gas service to approximately 130,000 customers in New York.
