HEA and LIHEAP
Home Energy Assistance Emergency Fund
The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is designed to help low-income families and individuals meet home heating and medically necessary cooling costs.
To be eligible for LIHEAP benefits, the applicant’s household must be responsible for home heating or cooling costs - either directly or included in the rent. The applicant must have a gross income at or below 60% of the State Median Income. The LIHEAP heating benefit amount is determined by income, household size, fuel type, and heating region.
As of October 1st, the LIHEAP program will operate on a first-come, first-served basis, requiring fully submitted applications with all required documentation to be considered for benefits.
Low-Income HEAP Emergency Fund

Up to $300 can be provided for non-heating electric costs and up to $800 can be provided for electric heating costs through the New Jersey LIHEAP program.
